Teneale Williams | Stampin Up! Christmas 2015 Dove of Peace Card

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I had a team member, Maree come to Sydney, she came to my Saturday class then we spent most of the weekend crafting, Maree was very productive reproducing cards I had made and using stamps she did not own. Mum also joined the fun and finished off half made cards while I made NOTHING! Not a single card, I stamped out lots of images and played around but my mojo was missing! Or I think I just had a case of “performance anxiety” hahaha.

Once they were gone my missing mojo came out of finding and I was able to make my card for todays Global Design Project challenge. A sketch challenge that I design for the team:

Global Design Project | Challenge 2 Sketch | 14th September 2015

Here is my card. I am really happy with the finished result after all that wasted time and cardstock from the weekend. I have stamped the Dove on White Shimmer paper and watercoloured using the ink from a squeezed inkpad and a blender pen.

I am a fan of using non-traditional colours at Christmas, I guess because I make so many Christmas cards it is easy to get sick of red and green pretty fast. You will find that playing around with different colours will also breathe new life into old stamp set that you have used in previous years. I have gone with 2 tones of purple: Rich Razzleberry and Blackberry Bliss that I then teamed with Tip Top Taupe and Silver.

I say it all the time, I know but it really is worth taking that extra time to finish the card with an embellished  inside. It does not need to be anything over the top, I have just stamped the Dove partly on the White Shimmer cardstock and watercoloured liked the front and added the verse that comes on the stamp.

Last week I announced that I was starting a new weekly segment here on my blog looking behind the scenes as I explain some of the funny little things that I do in the process of making my card; I am calling it “That’s how I do it”  it may not be the most conventional way but it works for me.

This week I am showing my lazy way of omitting part of a word. In this case I wanted a small greeting and the only word that fitted was this stamp from Holly Jolly Greetings but that had the ampersand in front. I could have used a marker to omit it but I prefer to ink words with an ink pad them a marker….I find that the marker does not make the image as crisp. Washi tape to the rescue again, after I ink the image I applied a little washi tape on the ampersand.

  14. Teneale, I adore the alternative colors you chose for Christmas. The purples are so regal and they work beautifully with Tip Top Taupe. Your dove is lovingly colored, but I also took note of the texture you added to the taupe background. Love it.

Teneale, there are days I look at your stuff and think YOU ALONE could sell any stamp set. Seriously! You’re the most creative person and the fact that you humbly share your ideas and tips…

Now for this card – wow! Love the colors! The way you colored the bird makes it look 3D even on the inside of the card. I did contemplate the thicker white CS for watercoloring. Does that and the shimmery white make a difference? I usually do the squeeze ink pad/blender deal too…

  17. Danielle says:
