It is always exciting starting something new, today I am starting with a new challenge site called the Global Design Project it has the most amazing design team I must say, some of the biggest names in Stampin’ Up! and some new CRAZY talented fresh faces; head on over to check the line up. A new challenge is posted every Monday and today is the first challenge, a colour challenge of Smoky Slate, Pink Pirouette and So Saffron. Louise Sharp is our challenge creator and if you know Louise you would not be surprised pink is in the first colour line up, that girl LOVES her pink. Teneale (me) on the other hand is not so much a pink kind of girl…. so this really was a challenge. We would love to have you try this colour combo and play along with us.
When I think pink I think pretty and sweet, I spent way too long thinking about which stamp set to use and I ended up going with Birthday Yay. I went very clean and simple with this card as you can see. To achieve tone on the flames I stamped off the So Saffron ink then lightly rock n rocked the flame stamp back on the So Saffron ink pad and this created the two tone effect I have.
I also have something new here on my blog; a look behind the scenes to what goes into some of my cards, I am calling it “That’s how I do it” In this series you will see some of the ways I added small details to my cards or the hacks I use along the way. This is first installment I am showing how I lined up my candles, I have taped a ruler down to my work surface using washi tape to act as a level ensuring each candle is placed straight. I then used my old iPhone (side note: I do get innovative with my tools in the craftroom) to act as a spacer between each candle.
It may seem crazy but if you notice those cards look pretty straight on my card, I hope you would agree. I would love to hear from my readers, do you have a question I how do something that has you wondering?
Here are the items I have used on this card.
Love your card! Your candles are perfectly lined up. Thanks to that IPhone and a Ruller. Who would have ever thought…..I am going to have to remember this tip! Maybe, someone has a old IPhone laying around they would let me barrow for my crafting needs. Back to your card. It is just perfect! Congrats on week one! I am so very looking forward to seeing all the wonderful creations each week over at the Global Design Project
This is awesome Teneale, love your iPhone technique 😉 would never have thought of it.
Teneale – There’s such a gorgeous simplicity in your project. I love, love, love your tips for using ordinary objects as crafting tools. What fun! I’m so happy to be serving on this Global Design Project Design Team with you.
Lovely card and cool ideas.
Ah, Miss T, you know how I feel about your work, and this card didn’t disappoint. It absolutely delighted me though, to see how you got your candles so straight. That is classic!!! So happy to be a design buddy of yours on the Global Design Project!
I have a question! How do you get your teeny, tiny mats so perfectly neat every. single. time?!!
Love your work, but you knew that already 😉
