Global Design Project | Case Paula Dobson

Talk about making me think. This week’s challenge from Global Design Project had me thinking. The theme is case the designer, my talented friend Paula Dobson from New Zealand. I ADORE this girl to pieces, we got to spend a weekend together a few year back at Delys Cram (Who I also adore) creative escape retreat. I was given a one on one class as Paula showed me her sponging tricks, this card has MASSIVE skills.  For this challenge, we are given a card that Paula created (sadly with no sponging) but still stunning. SO what jumped out at me was how Paula cut through the image using the ‘you’ Thinlit then added a few layers behind to make the greeting pop. I felt that going with stamped flowers was too obvious, so I took inspiration from the loop thread behind the hello. Finally, I look inspiration for the colours used. Kraft with Mint Macaron and a greeting stamped in Black.

I started by water colouring a section in Mint Macaron, with the large scribble die I cut through the image and cut 3 extra images from Very Vanilla Coaster Board (Retiring item) with a little glue I attached the die cuts together with the watercolour die on top. Positioned the die cut back in the section it has been cut from, then pushed the negative shapes from the die cut back in.

The greeting, ‘thanks’ is from Expressions Natural Elements and are retiring this month, when I was on the Stampin’ Up! Artisan team I prepared a post for the corporate blog. See the post HERE. I showed how to enhance the wooden texture of the Expressions Natural Elements.

Apply a few strokes of ink across the grain of the wood using a Stampin’ Write Marker. I used Soft Suede and Early Espresso from the Neutrals Stampin’ Write Markers collection. (It is fine to leave small sections without ink.)

Lightly sand the surface; I used a nail file.

I always like to add a little prettiness to the inside of my card. I have watercoloured the bottom and used the border die from swirly Scribble Framelits is the same way as the from by adding coaster board behind and flowers from Botanical Builder Framelits.
