This is my first post in 2019! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, mine was very low key and the quietest I have had in YEARS! This past December was the craziest month I have had in a long time, I blame going overseas for most of November, I arrived home and it was straight into Christmas socialising, shopping, decorating and all the craziness that comes at the end of the year. December is also busy with two family birthdays, my oldest Neice Bailey turned 13 and Mum (StampingBarb) well I don’t think she would like me sharing her age. What I am going to share with you is her Birthday and a little look into her birthday celebrations, let’s start with her envelope, on really special cards I like to make my own envelope. This one is using a mix of retired Stampin’ Up! papers and a brand spanking new design from Sale-A-Bration, which is the butterfly I have used on the top flap. I have watercoloured the butterfly with watercolour paints, I will say this printed paper is not the best to watercolour but I just wanted a light wash to add a pop of colour.
SO pretty! Well, I think so at least. The start of the card is the Climbing Roses stamp set and Rose Trellis Thinlits Dies from the new Occasions Catalogue click here or see page 9 of the catalogue. I started by watercolouring the two of the large rose images on watercolour paper, I decided to pull out my Kuretake Watercolour Paints that have not received a great deal of love this past year. I so do enjoy using my Stampin’ Blends and I guess that is why the watercolour paints have not been used as much for cardmaking but the photo does not do the colours justice.
I am pretty open in the fact I love my mum to bits! I could not find the right Happy Birthday to fit in that oval and we are that kind of family that never hang up the phone without saying I love you! It is not really showing in my photograph but over the greeting is a very light pink embossed flower image (you will see what I am talking about later in the post). I splatted a little pink paint over the top layers.
I am really over sharing today, which is not normally like me. I very rarely show the inside of the card if it has a message written but by not! The flowers along the top are leftover from the flower images I used on the front of the card.
Just to show them together.
We always have a family dinner at someone’s house to celebrate birthdays, normally the night of their birthday. I am always in charge of creating the table setting, I LOVE pulling out the fine china plates, glassware and special cutlery, don’t even get me started on my obsession with cloth napkins. Whoever is cooking changers around, that depends on what the birthday person has requested. This time around I was the cook as mum requested my Salmon with Sweet Potato Puree and Cous Cous.
For the table, I made this sweet little place cards, tones of pink with pops of silver and gold were the colour palette. I watercolour washed watercolour paper and used a die from Rose Trellis Thinlits Dies, the banner is Silver Glimmer Paper cut using the Duet Banner Punch. The ribbon spools I brought from House2home in Moorebank, I watercoloured some old music note paper, each spool had a twine bow and pin. Mum used to saw all the time when my sister and I were young, we were 9 years apart but mum had us in matching outfits and even made outfits for my cabbage patch doll. The spools reminder many of her sewing days and it was a great talking point.
I thought I would share the table setting seeing that I am oversharing so much today, I woke early, like 4:20am early to get to the flower markets for the table. Peonies are just ending their season and I was not sure if I would find any at a price I was willing to pay, I was kind of in luck (or I just added to my budget) I paired them with classic cream roses. Each place had a box of Lindt chocolates, these are retired Kraft boxes that Stampin’ Up! sold a few years ago, I brought a stack of them and use them often… My stack is now just a short pile. As I was cooking also I took a couple of photos before placing more drinkware and lighting the candles but I must say it looked so beautiful.
There are a few items like the ribbons that are not from Stampin’ Up! they are just ones I have been ‘hoarding’ for quite some time and some of the papers are retired items. The main stamps and dies are all current and simply click below. Remember when you spend $90 or $180 you receive a free Sale-A-Bration item like the Botanical Butterfly Papers, see more HERE.
